How to Change Button Shapes and Fonts in Squarespace

(Want to change button colors instead? Check out this post.)

Buttons are a key part of your site's design—they guide your visitors, highlight calls to action, and add a polished, branded touch. In Squarespace, you can customize button shapes and fonts easily in just a few steps.

Here’s how to do it:

How to Edit Button Styles

1. Click the paintbrush icon in the top-right corner of your site preview to open the Site Styles panel.

2. Select Buttons from the style options.

Use a Button Pack (Optional but Easy)

Before customizing individual button types, you can choose from a set of preset button packs—these give you a quick starting point for consistent styles.

3. Click All Button Packs to browse and apply a pre-designed set of button shapes and styles.
This is a great way to get a clean, cohesive look fast.

Customize Button Types Individually

Squarespace buttons are styled in three tiers: Primary, Secondary, and Tertiary. Each one can have its own font, shape, and padding.

4. Click on the button type you want to edit—let’s start with Primary.

Primary Button Settings

5. Fonts

Choose the font for your button text.

(Note: This may already be set based on your overall site fonts.)

6. Shape

  • Open the Shape dropdown to select a button style—rounded, pill, square, etc.

  • Want an outlined button?

    • Select No Fill

    • Choose your shape

    • Then adjust the Outline thickness just below the shape selector

7. Padding (Optional)

  • This controls the space around the text inside the button.

  • Most sites don’t need to tweak this, but if your button feels too small or too large, adjust the horizontal and vertical padding here.

8. Repeat steps 4–7 for your Secondary and Tertiary buttons if you plan to use them on your site. Keeping these consistent helps maintain a clean, professional look.

Don’t Forget to Save

Once you're happy with your button styles, click Save in the top-left corner of the editor to lock in your changes.

Final Thoughts

Buttons do more than look good—they’re how your visitors take action. Whether you want someone to book a call, explore your services, or make a purchase, well-designed buttons help guide the journey. Keep them consistent, clear, and styled to match your brand personality for maximum impact.
