How to Change Fonts in Squarespace

Looking to update the look of your Squarespace website? One of the easiest ways to improve your design is by customizing your fonts. In this step-by-step guide, you’ll learn exactly how to change fonts in Squarespace, including headings, body text, and buttons — all without using any code.

Fonts help set the tone of your brand and website. Whether you want a clean, modern look or something more elegant and traditional, your font choices play a huge role in how your site is perceived.

Squarespace makes it easy to customize fonts across your entire site — here’s how.

Step 1: Access the Style Settings

  1. Log into your Squarespace account.

  2. In the left-hand menu, click Website → then select Styles.

Step 2: Open the Fonts Panel

  1. The Styles panel will open on the right side of the screen.

  2. Click on Fonts to view all typography customization options.

  3. Select Headings

NOTE: For most websites, you only need to customize headings  (H1, H2, H3, H4.), paragraphs (body text), and buttons. Fonts for forms and other elements usually inherit these settings.

Step 3: Customize Heading Fonts

  1. Click Headings in the Fonts panel.

  2. Use the dropdown to select a new font family. You can scroll through options or search by name.

  3. Adjust the font size using the slider or input field towards the bottom of the panel. We recommend increasing or decreasing the font size by 0.2.

NOTE: Any font changes made here will apply site-wide to all headings (H1–H4).

Step 4 (Optional): Customize Font Style Options

Within each font section, you can adjust:

  • Font Weight: Controls how bold the text appears.

  • Text Transform: Converts text to uppercase, lowercase, and other styles.

  • Letter Spacing: Adjusts the spacing between individual letters.

  • Line Height: Sets the vertical spacing between lines within a paragraph.

NOTE: If you want to bold or capitalize just one section of text (not the whole site), you can do that manually in the page editor.

Step 5: Repeat for Paragraphs and Buttons

Follow the same process to customize:

  • Paragraph fonts (used in body text, blog posts, and product descriptions)

  • Button fonts (used in call-to-action buttons across your site)

 Additional Font Settings

  1.  Miscellaneous Fonts: This controls the monospaced font style that can be selected when editing text blocks and you can only have one size for this font across your site. While this blog post is not about editing colors, we want to mention that unlike headings and paragraphs, miscellaneous/monospaced colors, can only be changed by the paragraph medium color in the selected color theme. You can learn more about that in this short blog post.

  2. Font Sizes on Mobile vs. Desktop: Squarespace does not support separate font sizes for desktop and mobile without code. This is important to know if mobile responsiveness is a concern for your site.

Squarespace Font Tips for Better Design

  • Limit font styles to 2–3 for consistency.

  • Choose fonts that align with your brand personality.

  • Avoid fonts that are hard to read, especially on mobile.

  • Use Google Fonts or built-in Squarespace font families to keep loading times fast.

Final Thoughts

Changing fonts in Squarespace is a simple but powerful way to customize your site design. Whether you're launching a new website or refreshing an old one, good typography can make a big difference.
